Teaser Tuesday (4)

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This weeks Teaser comes from Talented by Sophie Davis...

"'Did she do that?' the shorter man asked, in disbelief.
'Impossible, she's a child,' a heavily accented voice interjected.
'Does she even have a weapon?'"
- Page 36 of 304 in ebook format
"During our actual Hunts, I let my teammates' emotions become my own. I fed on the thrill and excitement that coursed through them, using it to propel my own senses in to overdrive. The surge of adrenaline that accompanied the moment before we entered a building, the heart stopping pandemonium associated with every fight, the ecstast of victory when we succeeded, and filled the void left by Donavon's absence. I soon became addicted to the Hunt."

So that is it for today's teaser. This book is turning out to be quite excellent, although I am still at only the beginning!

Leave me a link with your own teasers! I love to read them.

Throwback Thursday (3)

This is a weekly meme started by me, Kelley Lee of Reading to Stay Alive
The rules are simple, pick a favorite book of your past, and post about it. You can pick a quote from the series, post the blurb, maybe write what was your favorite thing about the book. Pick a book that you haven't read for a long time, and spread the word about it's awesomeness, in something less or shorter than a review. Once you have your Throwback posted, come here are post a link in the comment section.

My Throwback Thursday-

This week I would like to highlight, and yes I know, I know, it is pretty obvious, but it is a can't miss.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Released on September 1st 1998

Goodreads:
Harry Potter has never been the star of a Quidditch team, scoring points while riding a broom far above the ground. He knows no spells, has never helped to hatch a dragon, and has never worn a cloak of invisibility.
All he knows is a miserable life with the Dursleys, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley—a great big swollen spoiled bully. Harry's room is a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs, and he hasn't had a birthday party in eleven years.
But all that is about to change when a mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger: a letter with an invitation to an incredible place that Harry—and anyone who reads about him—will find unforgettable. For it's there that he finds not only friends, aerial sports, and magic in everything from classes to meals, but a great destiny that's been waiting for him... if Harry can survive the encounter.

The Harry Potter series are great books to read as you are growing up. They opened my imagination  for better and brighter possibilities. They were really wonderful novels from my past. I hope you enjoyed my blast from the past!

50 Follower Giveaway

Hello Everyone! Can you believe just a short month ago there was no followers and this was blog wasn't even up and running? Now I have over fifty followers and this wonderful giveaway.

So, what am I giving away you ask? Well, in honor of it's release date (June 1st) I am going to be giving away GIRL OUT LOUD

Goodreads:

*Silent Scream!*
Kass Kennedy is nobody's idol. She does forget the lyrics. She's not a gleek. The x factor? Not her! Read her lips: She has the right to remain silent.
Just try telling that to her dad.
Because he's totally lost it this time, demanding Kass audition for a TV talent show. Which would be slightly less than death-by-embarrassment if Kass could (duh!) actually sing. And if even the smallest part of her craved the spotlight. Stardom is her dad's dream, not hers. But he's so fragile, she's afraid he just might crack if she doesn't go through with his latest, craziest plan.
Not helping: Her hopelessly MIA mom. The budding criminal mastermind also known as her kid brother. And amateur shrink Izzy and used-to-be-sweet Char, who've gone all frenemies over a boy in brown boots. (Don't ask.)
It's only rock n' roll? If only! Inside, Kass is screaming, but no one is listening. How loud does a girl have to shout to be heard?

So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and sign up!

Waiting on Wednesday (3)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine, that spotlights
upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This weeks Waiting on Wednesday will focus on a book not too far from publication.
Devine Intervention by Martha Brockenbrough Release Date: June 1st 2012

Luckily, I received the ARC of this so I could start reading it today!

Goodreads:

There is a great legend of the guardian angel who traveled across time and space for the human girl he loved, slaying those who would threaten her with a gleaming sword made of heavenly light.

This is not that story.

Jerome Hancock is Heidi Devine's guardian angel. Sort of. He's more of an angel trainee, in heaven's soul-rehabilitation program for wayward teens. And he's just about to get kicked out for having too many absences and for violating too many of the Ten Commandments for the Dead.

Heidi, meanwhile, is a high school junior who dreams of being an artist, but has been drafted onto her basketball team because she's taller than many a grown man. For as long as she can remember, she's heard a voice in her head - one that sings Lynyrd Skynyrd, offers up bad advice, and yet is company during those hours she feels most alone.

When the unthinkable happens, these two lost souls must figure out where they went wrong and whether they can make things right before Heidi's time is up and her soul is lost forever.

Martha Brockenbrough's debut novel is hilarious, heartbreaking, and hopeful, with a sense of humor that's wicked as hell, and writing that's just heavenly.

This weeks Teaser Tuesday comes from My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick...

"'Is Jase already going to marry you?'
I start coughing again. 'Uh. No. No, George. I'm only seventeen.' As if that's the only reason we aren't getting engaged.
'I'm this many.' George holds up four slightly grubby fingers. 'But Jase is seventeen and a half. You could. Then you could live in here with him. And have a big family.'
Jase strides into the room, of course. midway through the proposition. 'George. Beat it. Discovery Channel is on.'
George backs out of the room, but not before saying, 'His bed's really comfortable. And he never pees in it.'
The door closes and we both start laughing." ~ Page 36

"He walks slowly over, his eyes locked on mine, then puts his hands around my waist.
'Umm. So...are we going to study?' My tone's deliberately casual.
Jase slides his thumbs behind my ears, rubbing the hollow at their base. He's only inches from my face, still looking into my eyes. 'You bet. I'm studying you.'" ~Page 258
I finished this book on Sunday. It was absolutely fantastic! A must read, and it comes out on June 14th.

Leave a link for your TT's. I will be sure to check everyone!

My Life Next Door

Goodreads:
A gorgeous debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another

“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”
The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, seventeen-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything. As the two fall fiercely in love, Jase's family makes Samantha one of their own. Then in an instant, the bottom drops out of her world and she is suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?
A dreamy summer read, full of characters who stay with you long after the story is over.
Title: My Life Next Door
Author: Huntley Fitzpatrick
Release Date: June 14th
Publisher: Dial Books
Where to buy: Barnes and Noble, Amazon

Review:

*This review is based off of the ARC, thanks to ATWT Tours.

This book is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Realistic fiction that is actually believable. Samantha Reed is a heroine that you can be proud of. You understand her love, her trust and her pain when she is put in one of the most difficult situations I can imagine. She is honest, and brave, the kind of heroine you want to be like yourself.

Jase Garrett, probably one of the most adorable and handsome male leads of all time. He puts all the bad boys to shame by making them look exactly that, like boys. No girl could ever resist him, even if they are not into the good guy type. He is perfect, literally perfect in every way. Just the thought of him climbing up my terrace at night makes my heart flutter and skip a few beats.

The reason that their love is kept a secret at the start is because Sam's mom is very strict. She has looked over at her neighbors for the last ten years and seen constant mess. Sam's mother expects things to be held to a very high standard and the Garrett's fall far, far, far below that standard. So when their relationship starts Sam keeps it to herself, even hiding it from her so called best friend. Which you might be able to imagine is weird if you are a Garrett and everything is out in the open, and it is even acceptable to engage in mild PDA in front of your parents.

Basically, Mrs. Garrett and Mr. Garrett are the parents that you should have, the ones that love you for who you are and accept that teenagers will be teenagers. Another bonus is that this book had great length. Most realistic fiction, romance YA's top out around 300 pages but this one is almost to the 400's. It made it there without ramblings and drawn out thoughts. It was beautifully written and artfully crafted. The plot had me questioning what could possibly go wrong but not in a way that was unplanned and just thrown in there. There was a lot of depth and thought put into the steps each character will take that lead us straight through to the end.

The only thing that I was dissatisfied with was the last ten pages or so, because it was not as magnificent as the whole story. I felt I was left a little hanging on the ending, but that is my inner greediness asking for more and more. Because, truthfully, that is what you will be asking, you will want more of Sam and Jase, more of the assisting characters, George, Duff, Alice and especially Tim. Everyone played an important role and it was all purposeful not just thrown in as a space filler. I love this book and as I have to return this ARC I will be in Barnes and Noble on June 14th purchasing my own copy of My Life Next Door so I can read it for years and years to come.

I anticipate many great novels from Huntley Fitzpatrick. This was a beautiful debut and I hope I hear more about when her next novel will be released very soon. Her name is definitely a name to remember, and will certainly be on the best sellers list.

Rating:
And it deserves every single one of them, I would give
it 500 stars if I had that many!
